Chao Lay Boat Floating Festival

Where: Koh Lanta, Krabi
Chao Lay Boat Floating Festival falls the 6th and 11th lunar months. The ceremony is celebrated by drifting small boats onto the water, similarly to Loy Krathong. It is meant to bring prosperity and happiness to the Chao Le, a nomadic sea-faring people native to Krabi and is accompanied by a festive traditional song and dance, called the "rong ngeng". The highlights of this unique festival also include the release of model boats carved by the Chao Le.

Located on the coast of the Andaman Sea, Krabi has 2 seasons, hot and wet but the glorious
sunshine is still available throughout the year. With the influence of monsoon, Krabi
receives rainfalls between May to November. The drier weather is the rest of the year

Getting There
With the distance of 814 km from Bangkok, Krabi can be reached within 1.5 hours. The fastest way
to get there is by plane. Thanks to the international airport located about 15 km from the Krabi
city centre, there are both domestic and international flights flying there. If ones prefer taking
time to appreciate the view by train, it is possible but Krabi has no railway link. Road connection
is required in the provinces nearby such as Trang, Surat Thani or Nakhon Si Thammarat. There is
also bus service running straight from Bangkok to Krabi town which takes around 12 hours. Perhaps
night bus is an ideal. Driving could take approximately around 10 – 12 hours. To get there by boat

Koh Phi Phi
The highlight of the south, the star of the country is dabbed for Phi Phi Islands. The group of islands
is constantly the topic of the conversation amongst the tourists. Located in the Andaman Sea, about 48 km
from Krabi and Phuket, Phi Phi is a part of Phi Phi National Park, consisting of 2 main islands, Phi Phi

Diving in Krabi

types of diving. They are characterized by the topography of the area. The limestone cliffs

Ao Nang
Railay
Most of the upmarket hotels
are located on the West shore. Railay East is more of a mangrove forest with limited access
to the sea and not suitable for swimming. It offers, beside more budget
accommodation, more nightlife, entertainment and restaurants. Railays main
attraction, aside of the beach is cliff climbing.
Noppharathara
Accommodations are available along the beach and there is a year around
ferry boat service to Phi Phi Island. While close to Ao
Nang beach, Noppharathara is still a bit more on the quite
side and less commercialized.
Koh Lanta
The main beaches are located on the West
coast of the Island of Lanta Yai. Phra Ae beach and Long
beach in the Northwest and Khlong Kong and Khlong Ning going
South from there. It is worthwhile to explore the different
areas of the island, even if the main attractions are its
beaches and romantic sunsets.
Above all, the shallow sandy beaches extending into the
sea make Koh Lanta very safe destination
and perfect for family vacations.

regular passenger boats and speedboats connect to
Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Koh Jum and longtail-boats are available to bring travelers
